Good news for the future project of the Blasco Mentor museum in Solliés Toucas

The “Univers Mentor” endowment fund, by decision of its board of directors of November 19, 2018, decided to place an order with the consulting firm Elsa Olu in Lyon for a Scientific and Cultural Project called “PSC” in professional jargon.

The realization of this type of study was initiated and required by the Directorate of Museums of France (DMF) to supervise the formidable movement of expansion of museums that characterized the years 1980-1990: creation of museums, construction and renovation of buildings, professionalization of staff and practices, spectacular increase in audiences, major exhibitions that are increasingly more expensive and more frequented, marketing approach, etc.

The aim of this order is therefore to nourish the reflection that must precede the creation of our future museum, expose the interest of the project and assess whether it deserves to be continued by defining the vocation of the museum and its development, through a document of general orientation which will define the strategies and major orientations of the museum, taking into account all of Mentor’s works left to the municipality.

The PSC is not an architectural or museographic program, much less a simple list of necessary surfaces and equipment. In short, developing a PSC is like thinking about the museum and communicating its vision through a written document promoting the idea of a “cultural” project.

The PSC is also an instrument for dialogue and negotiation with regional and national authorities with a view to its approval, the search for subsidies, contacts with possible sponsors and various partners.

The friends of Blasco Mentor’s work fully associate themselves with this initiative because a museum is certainly defined from the collections, but also from the character of the building that houses them or the site, the museography, the variety and the quality of exhibitions and cultural activities, and its place in the local and regional framework.
