Why a Mentor Museum in Sollies-Toucas

In Mentor’s work, a taste for fairyland and a sense of reality coexist. Rich compositions, nudes with full shapes, bouquets with flowers pressed against each other, a diverse art, a rough, thick material, sometimes smooth and light: no room for emptiness. A sensuality, an art without concession or artifice. The firm drawing, the painting in warm colors and sumptuous impasto, contribute as much to the fantasy as to the gravity of the subjects thanks to a lovingly crafted technique.

This is the work, little known today by the Toucassines and Toucassins, of an artist who spent most of his life in our town.

Mentor’s death of course leaves a great cultural vacuum but also a moral legacy. We are all bearers and custodians of his work. Such a heritage does not only belong to our municipality,

it participates in the collective heritage, that is to say in the memory of each one. It is important to keep it so that everyone can discover it.

Mentor’s work therefore has its place in a museum, a place of conservation of our heritage, which will contribute to the enhancement of his works, to the development of educational and dissemination actions aimed at ensuring equal rights for all. access to culture. It will be able to offer various exhibitions and events in connection with Mentor and will promote Solliès-Toucas throughout the region and beyond.

A museum is a permanent, non-profit institution at the service of society and its development, open to the public, which acquires, conserves, studies, exhibits and transmits the tangible and intangible heritage of humanity and its environment to purposes of study, education and enjoyment.

The association “Les Amis de l’Oeuvre de Blasco MENTOR” has set itself, among other objectives, to support and accompany the creation of a museum dedicated to Blasco MENTOR in Solliès-Toucas, in order to perpetuate and participate in the dissemination , to the knowledge of his work.
