The Friends of the work of Blasco Mentor had requested a meeting with the new mayor of the municipality Mr. Jeremy Fabre in order to know the positions of the new municipality vis-à-vis the safeguard of Casa Nieves and the promotion of the work of Blasco Mentor.
Were present the Mayor, Isabelle Menut, cultural assistant, Ms. Michèle Cairety, representative of the “Univers Mentor” endowment fund, Alain de Lespinois, Hervé Martinole, Paule Forner, for “The Friends of the work of Blasco Mentor” .
The mayor renews his support for our association. He expresses his desire to see “the Friends of Blasco Mentor’s Work” and the “Univers Mentor” endowment fund to work in partnership with the municipality to promote his work. She wishes (as we expressed it in our last brochure) that the museum project, more modest and installed in the town, be re-examined. Its location, shape and size are yet to be defined. The current study must therefore be repeated.
Michèle Cairety informs us that the book on Mentor being prepared by Elsa Olu will be available in September 2020. It is financed by the endowment fund and will be on sale at the price of 49 Euros. The endowment fund looks forward to our help in finding buyers. On the occasion of the book’s release, the Michel Estades gallery is planning launch ceremonies in September in Toulon, in November in Lyon and in early 2021 in Paris.
As the Moulin Arnaud rehabilitation project has not yet been completed, we still do not have a date for the inauguration, nor any certainty as to whether to organize a Mentor exhibition there.
Regarding the Mentor property there is a real urgency to undertake renovations of the house but also of the workshop and the garden because a lot of things are going downhill. The work to bring the electricity up to standard has been completed. The budget line planned by the former municipality for the repair of part of the roof is abandoned. Instead, the works will be moved to a safe location and the launch of a new study proposed by Elsa Olu’s office defining a schedule and costing of the various works to be done. This last idea was defended at the time by our association.
Among the topics addressed by Isabelle Menut was the idea of arranging the library to bring together all the publications relating to the work of Blasco Mentor.
