At the beginning of 2026, our association bought a painting by Blasco Mentor “Flamenco Dancers”, oil on canvas of 100x81cm (see photo) with the aim of being exhibited at the town hall of Solliès Toucas.
None of the sources consulted give a precise date for the table. This often happens with Mentor’s works, a significant part of which is undated.
Although the exact date is not indicated, the work can be placed in the stylistic period in which Iberian themes — dancers, musicians, and popular scenes appear regularly in his work.
Several clues converge:- This is the period when Mentor asserts his very colorful, dynamic style, with animated compositions.- He then works between Paris (Grange-aux-Belles studio) and Solliès-Toucas.- He receives many awards in the years 1950-1970, a period of great artistic maturity.- The works of dancers and festive scenes known to him often date from this period.
It is therefore reasonable to place Flamenco Dancers in its period of full maturity, probably in the middle of the twentieth century, even if no source gives an official year.
