Toucassins views on the future Mentor Museum in Solliès Toucas

The municipality of Solliès Toucas having accepted the legacy and donation of Blasco Mentor’s works and wishing to welcome them in a future museum, is developing an ambition that goes far beyond the municipal framework. It is not just a cultural project to safeguard our heritage. This project is intended to revitalize our municipality. It must improve its image and its positioning within the Métropole Toulonnaise. It must also increase the cultural economic impacts by making this future museum a place of visit for the inhabitants of the region and the numerous tourists in our region.

On a practical level, the future museum must aim to provide its visitors with pleasure and inspiration. The encounter with Mentor’s work does not always go without raising questions and this is also characteristic of the artist.

Far from being limited to structural work, the creation of such a museum must cover many points.

That is to say : .

  • develop a diversified program that invites you to renew your perspective on the artist, but also to create a scenography for the collections.
  • cover all the elements that contribute to the presentation of the works: architecture of the building, location in the rooms, atmospheres, hanging and lighting systems, signage elements, furniture equipment, graphic charter, system for securing works and conservation of works.
  •  at the same time carry out an inventory and digitization of the works. .
  • define computer equipment for visitors, such as an interactive multimedia terminal.
  • define the functioning of the museum.

The scientific and cultural project (PSC) that we have already discussed in a previous article is now launched by the Univers Mentor endowment fund. It will integrate the inventory and use of Casa Nieves.

At the end of step one, it will lead to a study of positioning, feasibility and museographic and architectural pre-programming.

Stage two will provide all the technical elements in terms of architectural and museographic planning, down to the smallest detail, including of course the terms of access, reception and educational proposals for the public.

Several months of study and reflection will therefore pass between the placing of this order with the Cabinet Elsa Olu Conseil in Lyon and the submission of its final report allowing the work to be launched.

The cost of the step one study is approximately 30,000 Euros before tax.

The cost of the study for step two is approximately 40,000 Euros before tax.
